Most people don’t take the time to think about how much they use calligraphy fonts. We use calligraphy font every time we write something on a piece of paper, or type something on the computer at work or home. While using calligraphy font is a part of everyday life, it is also used as a creative form of art.
Calligraphy has changed through time adapting to the different centuries as needed, evolving into beautiful colors and pieces of art that have been shaped by the different periods of time and their artists.
When man first started to use font, he had to write on stone or in the dirt, so the font was an angular shape. As time went on and man became more experienced the use of fonts took on a new, softer shape. Papyrus was used to write on so this also affected the shape of the font.
In Europe the monks in the Catholic Church developed a style of font that was used to transcribe biblical works at that time. The monks used a style that was more elaborate and formal since most of society was illiterate at that time and reading was limited to royalty and the members of the church. At this time the “Gothic” font was consider one of the most desirable fonts to use.
As time went on and more and more people learned how to read there became a need for a font that was a simpler form. At that time the need for a simpler form of the “Gothic” font was developed. This font was made into several different styles that were popular when printing books and documents.
The invention of the printing press put a damper on calligraphy for a while. But not all was lost. Calligraphy was taught in the form of cursive and print in the local schools and the artists still used calligraphy fonts in their works of art. You can find different styles of calligraphy font and their history all over the world today in different museums
Today calligraphy font is used in many different ways. You can find it on wedding invitations, business cards, billboards, signs for restaurants, business signs, and many other forms of advertisement. Calligraphy font is something you can do yourself, or you can hire an expert to do it for you.
Since there are some many different styles, sizes, and colors of calligraphy font to choose from, you will need to decide what you are going to use the calligraphy font on. Different occasions require different types of font styles. So be sure to check with a font expert if you’re not sure which font is the right one for you and your occasion. There are also plenty of books and online resources that you can use to help you make up your mind when looking for the perfect font.
You might even want to experiment with the different styles of font. Calligraphy font is a form of art, so don’t be afraid to let loose and have some fun.
